Effect

The spectator is asked to shuffle the cards freely. The magician displays a pamphlet and explains that he has been studying card divination - an ancient system of prediction using playing cards.

The participant is then given an envelope and the performer says, “Although we have never met before, the envelope contains the Card Standing Down Technique that I prepared especially for you. Let's see if this system works!

The shuffled pile of cards assorted on top of the five cards is removed and inserted into the losing edge of the display. The spectator is told to choose any one of the five cards. The card chosen is the four of clubs. The four unselected cards are shown as completely different cards. When the fortune-telling message is removed from the envelope, it reads.

“You are compassionate by nature and have great leadership potential. Your sense of humor is admired by others. Your lucky card is the Four of Clubs!”
