The utility contained within this manuscript combines an impression device with the classic pass from card magic in a way to provide an innocent looking way of getting participants to write down information on a piece of card and seal it in an envelope. The gimmick works for routines that involve single or multiple participants.

The construction of the gimmick draws on many other impression devices, and in particular Walford Taylor??s Taylormaid Impression Envelope published in the Magic Circular (Issue 1093, Volume 101, August 2007, pp. 233-235). Taylor??s gimmick uses letter-sized envelopes, carbon paper, and a slightly different construction, which in my view seems to be less practical and not quite as convincing as the pay envelopes used here.
