Needle Thru Coin by Nathan Kranzo

A needle visibly penetrates a signed coin-direct, visual, and astonishing. A collaboration between Artisan Coin and Nathan Kranzo.

Note: A regular Kennedy Half Dollar (2019 or later) is required to perform this effect. This product includes only the gimmicked coin.

Inspired by a routine from Martin Gardner’s The Encyclopedia of Impromptu Magic (1978), this effect is a marvel of penetration magic.

Invite your spectator to examine a needle, a thread, and a Half Dollar coin. Have them sign one side of the coin, while you sign the other, making it completely unique.

Wrap the signed coin in aluminum foil. Both you and the spectator hold it firmly, clearly feeling the solid coin through the foil.

Then the impossible happens: the needle and thread visibly pass through the coin.

When the foil is unwrapped, the coin is seen to be perfectly intact, with both signatures still clearly visible.

All props can be examined before and after the performance. Your hands stay clean throughout, no complex sleight of hand required. The coin can even be signed and given away. The method is as ingenious as it is practical.

The set includes a precision-crafted gimmicked Half Dollar, a solid wood spool (gaffed but appearing ordinary), and all other necessary props-except a regular Half Dollar, which you’ll need to provide yourself (2019 or later).
