Kenton’s Test Conditions Metal Bending Routine

Two participants choose 2 bags with spoons inside. The rest are handed out freely to the audience. Without any funny movements or touching the spoons, the performer bends one spoon, and twists the other chosen one into severe twists. The performer does not touch the spoons. The spoons are real. Everything is handed out or examined. This act alone is a feature and worth more than the price of the book. Kenton is hiding it here rather than selling it on its own, knowing only select people will read a book.

The Unicorn Book Test

A book is chosen from a stack of books. There is no equivoque here. The rest of the books are given away to the audience to examine, or even keep. The performer holds one of these books as an example, but the participant holds the book they have randomly selected the whole time. The performer slowly and fairly riffles down the pages of his or her book, and the participant stops on any page. The performer can show the audience the page number in this book. The participant turns to that page in their own book and looks at it. Immediately the performer can mind read what is in the participant’s mind.

This is repeated. Then the third time things get wild. A page is stopped on in the performer’s book, and it is openly torn out of the book. The participant turns to the page in their book… and the page in their book is also torn out! The book chosen by the participant can be entirely examined now. There is only one page torn, and the book is otherwise ordinary.

67th Key to Baldpate

A lock and a bunch of keys are on a table or tray. The participant counts fairly to any number and takes the key at their number. The performer chooses one key as well. The participant finds out that none of the other keys work in the lock. The performer teases the participant by saying they can trust themselves, or take the performer’s key. After some byplay the participant keeps their own key, or not, and their choice is found to open the lock. No sleight of hand. No switches required.

The Chair Test

One of two Chair Test mentalism routines in this book. So fair looking and easy to do. People come up and sit in chairs. The people are mixed around. Then a participant calls out a number. The people look at the numbers on the seat cushions they are sitting on. The numbers are in order. The person sitting in the chosen seat is asked to stand and state their name. A prediction envelope that has been in full view from the start is opened. It says which seat the person is seated in, what their name is, what they are wearing, etc.

A different chair test is simple and to the point. People sit in chairs. Someone calls out a number or rolls a die. People look on the back of their chairs to find that the number used found the person who is sitting in the STAR’S chair, as it is marked with a big Hollywood type star.

We won’t even talk about the “Hollywood Party Game” that’s in this book where couples come up and a person rolling the die goes home with the person at that number!

The Gift That Keeps On Giving

It’s a birthday party, or the holidays. You have gifts to hand out. You point to someone and ask them to give you a number one through six. They do. You count over fairly to that number and they take the gift based on the number they called out. Other gifts that were possible choices are handed out to others. The person who chose the number finds that their present is not a random gift. It is exactly what they wanted! All the other gifts handed out are very different. “You really must be a mentalist!”

Poisoned Perfume

A tray of perfume bottles are shown. They are all said to be poisoned except for one. A person rolls a die and that number of bottles are eliminated. The performer takes the very next bottle that remains, opens it, and drinks it! The other bottles are opened so people can sniff the contents. The other bottles have horrible smelling poisoned liquid inside – yuck!
