READ THE EFFECT CAREFULLY BECAUSE IT WILL SEEM IMPOSSIBLE:

A sealed can is given out PRIOR to the performance and held by a spectator throughout the show. At the appropriate time, a bill is borrowed and signed. This bill is then placed inside an envelope and burnt. A second bill is borrowed and signed by another spectator and this magically changes into the first spectator's signed bill.

The person holding the tin can is now asked to open it up and INSIDE they find the second spectators SIGNED BILL!
